Becoming a Personal Trainer April 29, 2009

It’s pretty crazy.  I’ve always liked working out.  For a while there (before I got pregnant) the gym was like a second home to me.  HOwever I never really saw myself able to be a personal trainer.  I always thought that you had to have college degree in sports med or fitness science or something of that sort.   And while many personal trainers do indeed have a degree, one can also become a personal trainer by just getting certified through a credited program.

I searched for a while at many different programs from which to get my certification.  Then I asked a friend what she would suggest, and it was ACE.  After reading more about ACE, I decided that it would be the best for what I am wanting to do.  All my studies had to be from home as I have 1year old Triplets.  The ACE program is like a huge “crash course” in fitness health/anatomy and much more.

So why become a Personal Trainer you may ask.  Well, I do actually like working out.  I prefer being outside, but in a gym is also fun…especially in the winter when it is cold.  I also like helping people.  I didn’t want to “go back to work” and be stuck at another desk job from Hell….not that my co-workers weren’t the best, cus they were all cool.  It just wasn’t what I was called to do.  I am not an office kinda girl.  I have a desire to do something that matters where I can see the results and share them with individual people.  I love seeing people make a goal and then meet it and get so excited…And people tend to get really excited about their bodies looking and feeling better.  I know I do.  I believe that fitness is not just about your body, but also your mind and spirit.  God has put a desire within me to teach others and impact them in any way I can for His purpose.  If our bodies are His temple, we should be treating them as such.  I know I fail at this miserably along with the rest.  But it is something I strive towards and want to go alongside others and help them along too.

These past couple weeks have been challenging.  Getting into the whole studying routine is always difficult for me, but a bit easier now as I am interested in actually learning this subject.  I have studied Exercise Physiology and am now in my second week of Anatomy.  Only about 16 more weeks to go!

Along with my studies I am trying to get my body in a better physical state.  I have been running, which feels great!  This is just step one.  The first couple time I ran 1 minute/walked 1 minute, then upped it to run 2 min/walk 1 min.  After that I just decided to try to go as long as I could.  This last time I ran, I ran for 8 min straight!  It feels SO good to be in this process myself, and cannot wait to be training people to feel the same self accomplishment.

So pray for me and encourage me along when you think about it!  I still have a long  journey ahead, but I know it will all be worth it!
